Conference vital for the future
ADMINISTRATORS, coaches, parents and teachers can prepare for rapidly-changing challenges at an Ipswich sports conference next month.
The informative one-day Future of Sport Conference is being run by the Ipswich Sports House team at the Ipswich Civic Centre on November 3.
ISH executive officer Troy McGrath said the range of topics are based on needs and issues identified by regional clubs and associations in recent months.
"Sports administrators can come along for professional development opportunities and it's for coaches in particular and people involved in athlete development," McGrath said.
"This includes parents and PE teachers as well.
"It's to help them on their journey to becoming quality professionals in their industry."
McGrath said the program's content was geared to helping people at grassroots level stay ahead in changing times.
"This is our future, what it looks like," McGrath said.
"To be in a position to take advantage of the trends and changes going forward.
"The credibility to this presentation is it is based on research, the demographics, where the populations are going, where they are moving to and how people are recreating.
"... and how the pressures of today will influence decisions on how sport and recreation is provided to the community."
McGrath said the conference was suitable for anyone involved in sport and recreation who wants to improve their club or organisation.
The fully catered conference has been scheduled to run before the prestigious 2012 QT-City of Ipswich Sports Awards function that evening.
"Learn and celebrate is the message," McGrath said.
"It's a big day not only celebrating what is happening in the city but trying to make sure that we're adding some educational value."
A number of key speakers have been organised to cover the diverse range of subjects.
Cost of the conference is $80.
Participants wanting to stay on and celebrate the sports awards that follow can attend the gala night for an extra $50.
