'Chopper' to star in gangster flick

TERMINALLY-ill Mark "Chopper" Read will today announce that filming will go ahead on his final movie project.

The former underworld figured turned celebrity was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer earlier this year.

Filming can now go ahead on The Hurtin' Kind Part One: The Albanian after a final investor, Footscray Market fruiterer Velli Vellishi, backed the Aussie gangster drama.

Read will play himself in the film, which is based on real-life events and characters and directed by Peter Callas.

Due to his ill health, Read's scenes will be filmed next month before principal photography begins early next year.
