POLICE yesterday dropped the charges against a protester who refused to leave a coal seam gas project near Boonah in January.

Linda Louise Weston, 53, was charged with obstructing petroleum activity for refusing a police direction to move during the protest against Arrow Energy.

In Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, police officially offered no evidence against Mrs Weston. Almost 30 supporters erupted in cheers and applause at the finding.

Keep Scenic Rim Scenic spokesman Innes Larkin said Arrow only had an "expired permit to mine coal in the area" - not gas - meaning police had insufficient evidence to prosecute.

"Arrow has left our region and haven't come back," Mr Larkin told the QT yesterday. "It was the community standing for what they believe in that forced the political parties to make a stand.
