DEFENDING champion Greg Chalmers will tee off alongside eight-time major winner Tom Watson in the opening two rounds of the Australian Open starting at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney on Thursday.

It will mark the start of the Sydney-born and now Dallas-based Chalmers campaign to complete another memorable double.

The 39-year-old left-hander won both the Australian Open and PGA Championship last summer, the 12th player in 108 years to do so.

Chalmers said he was looking forward to getting down to business.

"I'm keen and really hungry. I want to put a strong defence up."

World No.4 Justin Rose, 2009 Australian Open and 2012 Aussie Masters champion Adam Scott and China's Liang Wen-Chong will play in the second feature group on the opening morning.

Former winners Geoff Ogilvy and John Senden have also been paired together.
