THE Centenary Highway has been reopened at Springfield following grassfires and extensive back-burning operations overnight.

The west-bound lanes of the highway were closed late last night due to thick smoke.

The lanes were reopened about 6.30am, with the speed limit reduced to 60kmh.

Police have urged motorists to take care with a thick smoke haze still affecting visibility.
