Carers lobby for help
"PEOPLE don't realise how much of a struggle it is to look after someone with a disability."
Those were the words of Nanango's Endeavour Foundation manager Lyn Hood, on Friday, when the Nanango Endeavour Foundation Recycled Clothing Store hosted a DisabiliTEA morning tea.
The morning tea's goal was to lobby politicians to fund a rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
So far the Queensland Government has refused to fund any trials of the NDIS, claiming the State cannot afford the scheme.
Mrs Hood knows first hand the exhaustion, frustration and financial struggles carers experience from little to no government assistance.
"I had to look after both my brother and my mother and it really is hard to get any help from the government," she said.
Mrs Hood said the NDIS needed more public support behind it.
"We need signatures and support from the local people to show that we need this insurance scheme."
