CAR lovers put the anxiety surrounding the future of cancer care at St Andrew's behind them and let their engines do the talking at the hospital's annual show and shine fundraiser.

Organiser Geoffrey Voll has watched the event grow every year and said the 2012 line-up was the best he had seen.

He was well aware of the uncertainty caused by a State Government decision to cut rebates for cancer drug Docetaxel but said the show must go on.

"They're still arguing about what's going to happen, but we're just here to raise money for whatever the cancer ward needs to buy," he said.

"We're trying to get money together to buy special oncology chairs that cost about $6000 each - they look a bit like La-Z-Boys but can be collapsed down in to a hospital bed if needed."
