SCOTTY the butcher has bitten back to defend his bacon after it got burned by criticism on Channel 7's My Kitchen Rules.

On Thursday night, about two million viewers across Australia watched Hervey Bay couple Dan and Steph scrape through to stay in the running of the show by one point.

The couple braised smoked bacon from Scotty's Mad About Meats in cherry cola for the main meal and the meat was slammed for being too fatty.

On Friday, Scotty Reid said he stood behind the quality of his meats.

"We have won over 40 awards across the state for our meats," he said.

"Everything I sell, I back up."

Scotty said about 100 customers went through his shop each day and he hadn't heard a complaint like Dan and Steph's.

He said he still wished the couple all the best and chalked up the criticism to the pressure-cooker environment of reality television.

Scotty admitted the cut of meat the couple used was a fatty one, but said the choice to use smoked bacon rather than fresh pork belly would have affected the meal.

He advised anyone wanting to try that recipe in future to use the fresh pork rather than the smoked bacon.
