Busy day for A-League

TWO more pieces of the A-League coaching puzzle could be put in place today.

After resigning as coach of the premiership-winning Brisbane Roar just hours after the team's ticker tape parade through Brisbane on Tuesday, Ange Postecoglou is expected to be unveiled as the new Melbourne Victory coach at 11.30 this morning.

And the Melbourne Heart has its awards night tonight where either former Socceroos John Aloisi or Ante Milicic could be named as the replacement for John van 't Schip.

The pair were assistants to the Dutchman last season and both are rated as potential A-League coaches.

Milicic is also one of the front-runners for the top job at the new Western Sydney club, installed the $4 equal favourite by TAB Sportsbet with another former Socceroo, Tony Popovic.

Three former A-League coaches, Miron Bleiberg, Branko Culina and Ernie Merrick, are also believed to be under consideration.

TAB Sportsbet has also started a market on a name for the new club with the Saints, Rovers and Wolves the early contenders.

While those clubs get set to make their announcements, the Roar has wasted no time in finding a replacement for Postecoglou, yesterday announcing long-time assistant Rado Vidosic had been given the role.

He revealed his former boss had told players and officials after the major semi-final against Ccentral Coast in Gosford two weeks ago that he was considering moving on.

Vidosic showed he had a sense of humour by saying he could never fill Postecoglou's shoes.
"Ange is a size 12 - I'm a size 7," he said.

Vidosic also said despite the club's success in the past two years, there were areas where improvements could be made.

"The last two years have been fantastic. We've developed a very successful style in the A-League, now we also need to find a successful style in the (Asian) Champions League," he said.

With questions unanswered about whether any Roar players might follow Postecoglou to the Victory, or head overseas, Vidosic said he was keen to pursue a youth development policy.

He also said his son Dario, one of the stars at Adelaide United, would not be coming to the Roar any time soon.

"Dario is contracted with Adelaide, and we are a club that is trying to develop young players," Vidosic said
