Brisbane Lions' leading men both out of NAB Cup clashes

THE day after being named co-captains for the 2013 season, both Jonathan Brown and Jed Adcock will not play in the Brisbane Lions' NAB Cup openers against Gold Coast and Hawthorn on the Gold Coast tonight.

Veteran Brown is is being rested as part of a "long-term plan" while Adcock is also being held back as part of his recovery from off-season hip surgery.

Newly appointed vice-captains Daniel Rich and Tom Rockliff will take the reins in the two matches at Metricon Stadium.

Brown said he would return in round three of the NAB Cup against Collingwood at Etihad Stadium on March 9, while Adcock is expected to play against Greater Western Sydney a week earlier.
