BORAT'S mankini made an unexpected appearance in Hervey Bay on the weekend.

Police were called to Ibis Blvd when a drunken Borat fan, dressed in the skimpy fluorescent bathing suit made famous by Sacha Baron Cohen, was seen running onto the road and disturbing traffic about 5.40pm on Saturday.

A Hervey Bay police spokesman said the intoxicated man was "waving and making gestures at passing motor vehicles".

The 21-year-old was given a ticket for public nuisance.

It is understood police kept a photograph of the mankini bandit as "evidence".
