Birds and ducks decapitated in horrific act of cruelty

ABOUT 20 chickens and ducks were found decapitated in Morayfield.

POLICE are investigating a mass poultry slaughter at a Morayfield home on Friday morning in the latest stint of animal cruelty to hit the town.

Retiree Kerry Twine, 68 and her partner Robert Venz of Adelong Ct, were left distraught after they discovered the cruel mess left in their back yard when they woke up on Friday.

About 20 birds including ducks and chickens were decapitated and left around their yard.

Ms Twine believed the killings happened about 4am.

She said she heard a noise about that time and came outside to see what it was but couldn't see anything.

It wasn't until the couple woke up that they saw the extent of the cruelty.

"I noticed what I thought was a pile of rags down at the gate, I went down to see what it was and it was all my chooks in a pile, they had been neatly stacked without their heads," Ms Twine.

"I can't get the sight out of my mind."

She said she found her favourite rooster Henry with also a snapped neck.

It was little solace but she was relieved he had been spared the brutal fate of the others.

Ms Twine said she wasn't the only home targeted in the street that night, another house further down also discovered one dead chook and others missing.

She said she believed the offenders were locals.

"I don't know why anyone would do this," she said.

Police believed the offenders had entered Ms Twine's backyard between 1-4am and located a handaxe at the scene which was allegedly used to decapitate the birds.

A police spokesman said the Caboolture Criminal Investigation Branch was investigating the matter.

"They have listed some suspects and interviewed people but charges have not been laid as of yet," the spokesman said.
