Bill Cox shares story of flood heartbreak

BILL Cox never thought floodwaters would rush through his North Bundaberg home, but when he saw the water level rising rapidly he knew it was time for his family to grab their dogs and go.

"It's never been up to this level," Mr Cox said, talking about the home he has lived in for the last 17 years.

"In the early stages they were talking about an 8m flood.

"I thought, 'we're pretty right'."

But it soon became apparent that it was time to go.

But it only took 10 minutes for the floodwaters to rise to an alarming level, so Mr Cox took a semi-trailer and headed to a nearby farm where the household could stay with their pets.

"I said, 'it's time I wasn't here'," Mr Cox said.

"We were lucky we didn't evacuate over town."

"We had dogs with us, and they couldn't evacuate dogs."

Mr Cox now faces a massive clean-up, with his home inundated with water.
