RSPCA help rescue ducklings
EIGHT ducklings waddled off safe and sound reunited with their mother after earlier plummeting down a storm drain in a Sippy Downs car park yesterday.
About half of the ducklings, believed to be Australian wood ducks, first fell between the gratings while following their mother through the Bella Grace Early Learning Centre about 9.30am.
A worker in the centre, who saw the incident, said the other half fell in when the mother duck went back to investigate.
RSPCA Sunshine Coast inspector Julia Steley was called to the scene.
She brought in firefighters and Sunshine Coast Council to help her rescue the babies.
Following the loud chirps from the drain below, they removed the grating and managed to pull the ducklings out one by one over the course of an hour.
Ms Steley said that had it not been for the witness, the ducklings would not have made it.
"There's no way they would have been able to get out on their own. They would have perished down there," she said.
Ms Steley said if anyone witnessed an animal in distress to call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625).
