Doctor warns be sun safe this summer to prevent cancer

WITH summer being well and truly here, Dr Eddie Roos from Cosmetic Elegance warns of the sun's dangers and how to protect yourself from sun cancer.

Dr Roos said that it was best to try to avoid the sun from 10am to 3pm.

"I think summer is a time we enjoy being outside. Follow the rules, and be sensible," he said.

"Don't just say 'I can't wear sunscreen'; go to a pharmacist and get the right one that works for you and follow the instructions."

Some ways to protect yourself this summer are by wearing and reapplying 30+ sunscreen, a brimmed hat, long sleeved shirt, and sunglasses.

"Places that people forget to protect are behind the ears, the neck and the lower part of their legs," Dr Roos said.

"In my opinion, no brand of sunscreen is better than the other.

"The best sunscreen is the one you own."

Melanomas are most common within the ages of 15 to 45 and people should be getting checked for skin cancer before that age.

"People should be getting annual or biannual checks," Dr Roos said.
