Bar brawler to pay for door

A MAN who shattered a glass door with a bar stool at a West Ipswich hotel after being evicted has faced court.

Christopher Stumer, 24, and two mates went to the beer garden at The Coronation Hotel, on Brisbane St, on May 5 and, after creating a commotion, were asked to leave.

Stumer made his way to the gaming room and returned with the stool.

He threw it through the door of the hotel, causing almost $1100 damage.

Police arrested him a short distance away and he was charged with wilful damage.

Stumer pleaded guilty yesterday at Ipswich Magistrates Court and was fined $200, with the magistrate emphasising it was more important he pay restitution to the hotel.

Defence lawyer Trevor Hoskin said Stumer and his two mates became involved in an altercation with other patrons at the pub and he was simply trying to break the fight up.

Mr Hoskin said after being evicted, Stumer threw the stool at the window in an ill-fated attempt to get back in.
