Bad drivers caught in the act on Rocky man's car camera

IN A region notorious for its bad driving behaviour, Rockhampton man John Wallis isn't taking any chances.

After seeing a number of videos capturing dangerous incidents on Central Queensland roads on the Bulletin's website, Mr Wallis felt compelled to share his own videos.

With two cameras mounted to his vehicle, Mr Wallis is able to capture any incidents that occur either in front or behind him.

"It's really all about protecting myself as a driver, really," Mr Wallis said.

"My wife nearly hit a pedestrian who just walked in front of the car a little while ago, and that would have been difficult to prove she was not at fault if it had been a disaster."

Since having the cameras installed, Mr Wallis has caught a number of drivers doing dodgy things on roads right across CQ and has started posting them on YouTube.

"They aren't anything spectacular, but I have caught a lot of potential accidents," he said.

"I've caught people running red lights, not giving right of way and crossing double white lines to overtake another vehicle.

"It just shows you how dangerous it can be out there on the road."

Mr Wallis said he was not taking the law into his own hands by recording these videos, but just trying to encourage more patience on the road.

"These videos aren't of any use to the police, but I think they highlight some real risks out there, so hopefully people see them and start to think about their driving a bit more."

Mr Wallis said he strongly believed every motorist should have cameras in their vehicles.

"You never know what trouble you could find yourself in at the hands of somebody's bad judgment, so I'd encourage anybody who drives a vehicle to protect themselves by installing some cameras."
