IPSWICH City Council has stopped using a vehicle fitted with number plate recognition technology to issue parking fines and will conduct a review of all fines issued using the vehicle.

The automatic number plate recognition (APNR) vehicle was previously used to issue fines for vehicles parked on footpaths, but was taken out of service after the legitimacy of a number of fines was brought into question.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale and Heath and Community Safety Committee chairman Andrew Antoniolli today announced a review of all fines issued using APNR technology.

Cr Andrew Antoniolli said he had personally undertaken a spot check review of infringements over the past week.
