Police officer hurt in assault

A POLICE officer is being treated for a suspected fractured finger following an alleged assault at North Ipswich last night.

Around 8pm two police officers were conducting foot patrols around The Terrace near a shopping centre when they observed a security guard attempting to restrain a man.

The man allegedly threatened to assault the security guard and lunged at him, when police restrained him.

The man allegedly struggled with police, and attempted to spit at the officers.

A male senior constable was injured during the incident.

A 17-year-old Kensington Grove man has been charged with assault police and public nuisance.

He is expected to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on August 31.
