Mayor pulls out all the stops to attract Angelina Jolie

WELCOME: Angelina Jolie.
WELCOME: Angelina Jolie. Bang! Showbiz

IPSWICH has lodged its bid to be the site for Angelina Jolie's new movie.

Since news Jolie would film scenes for the upcoming movie in Queensland, cities and towns across the state have been lobbying to have the movie shot in their area.

But Mayor Paul Pisasale declared yesterday that Ipswich had everything the movie needed.

The big budget film, Unbroken, which will be directed by Jolie, is scheduled to begin filming this month and the city council has already been in touch with Screen Queensland to offer Ipswich's services.

The movie will chronicle the life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during the Second World War.

Cr Pisasale said Ipswich was perfect for wartime-era films.

Earlier this year, ABC film crews chose Ipswich to film scenes for its telemovie Parer's War - a biopic about wartime cameraman Damien Parer.

And last year the Ipswich Railway Workshops were used in Colin Firth's POW drama The Railway Man.

"Our city will do what we can to have more movies here," he said.

The film was originally planned to be produced in Hawaii but was moved to Australia last month.

Cr Pisasale said time and again Ipswich had proved it could be a wonderful and accommodating setting for filmmakers.

In the last few days, Jolie has been spotted scouting locations in Tamworth and the small town of Werris Creek.
