An inspiration to all
A BANORA Point woman who has fought misconceptions about her all her life has started on the motivational speaking circuit.
Tracy Burrell was born without both legs and one arm through in-utero abnormalities caused by the anti nausea drug, Debendox.
But her disability has not stopped her achievements. She won two gold medals for swimming in the 1992 Barcelona Paralympics, is an Australia Day ambassador and has brought up her two boys.
Now Ms Burrell is taking on her next challenge: starting her own business in motivational speaking.
"People living with a disability are just as capable as anyone else," Ms Burrell said.
"It's surprising that most people think all people with disabilities have a carer or people working for them all day."
Ms Burrell said she lived in an unmodified home, where she brought up her boys.
"It can be hard sometimes," she said.
"The basic rights and needs, and being a mother with a disability, is very difficult.
"There are no services out there that support me."
"Chatting With Tracy" was a company about motivational speaking.
"I like public speaking," she said.
"I don't get nervous at all."
