ADIL Memon last night beat the odds to make it through to the The X Factor's Top 12.

The 18-year-old lifeguard got the tick of approval from international superstar Usher and ex-Spice Girl Mel B.

He will perform on live shows from next week.

The teen heart-throb looked upset as Mel B voiced her concern about his nerves.

He was on the verge of tears as Mel B paused after she said,

"I'm sorry, but I've got to be honest with you ... I've made my decision ..."

Then Adil sighed with relief as she announced he was the first to make it into the under-25 boys' Top 3.

For once, the fast-talking teen was lost for words.

"I cannot believe this is happening," was all he managed.

The star revealed she had a soft spot for the Ipswich teen.

"When I thought back to your first audition, I was quite surprised by your voice, it made me melt," Mel B said.

She and Usher agreed Adil would attract young female fans.

"I do think the girls are going to go crazy for you," Mel B said.

The Top 12 also features under 25s Jason Owen, Josh Brookes, Bella Ferraro, Angel Tupai and Shiane Hawke.
