THE extended school community of Mackay North State High School has been glued to their TV screens this week hoping to catch a glimpse of Year 11 student Judah Kelly.

It's believed the 15-year-old made it through to boot camp on the talent program X Factor, though Seven is keeping tight-lipped on the subject.

Even getting in touch with the young star has proved difficult as he's busy performing at the Gympie Muster this week.

But Judah's dad, Rob Kelly, confirmed he had had some success and his North High music teacher, Kathy George, said there was no doubt about his talent.

"Judah was preparing for his major music performance exam the other day and he sang Can You Feel the Love Tonight," Mrs George said.

"I was sitting there in awe and I had goosebumps.

"You don't get too many students with that degree of talent. Judah has a wonderful range, he can improvise at will and is the consummate musician.

"We are really proud of him and his classmates are all cheering him on."

Rob Kelly said Judah's X Factor experience began months ago.

"He went to Cairns to audition, and from there he was chosen to go to the Gold Coast," Mr Kelly said.

"They flew him down from Mackay for that, and from there he went on to Sydney for boot camp.

"We were told to watch X Factor over the next three nights, but they don't really give us any more information than that. I did see a glimpse of him on the first night."

The Kelly family moved from Bowen to Mackay to improve Judah's music prospects two years ago.

He said Judah had inherited his singing talent from his mother, Hana.

"Mum's the singer, I just cart the gear," he said.
