WHAT scares a Bondi Rescue lifeguard who is not afraid of sharks?

A hill.

The notorious Noosa-Cooroy decline of the Noosa Triathlon, where bike riders hit speeds up to 100kmh, may just be the breaking point for these otherwise fearless lifeguards.

Andrew Reid - "Reidy" - and Adriel Young - "Bacon" - will compete in the landmark competition on Sunday.

The race will be the TV stars' first major triathlon and although the swim leg may be a "piece of cake" for the boys, Reidy admits the 40.06 km bike ride will be challenging.

"We don't get to do much riding in Sydney," he said.

"So the ride is definitely going to be the hardest part, especially down that hill.

"I have been told it is not recommended to brake, but I may have to pull the wimpy card."

The first-time participants have been training for the popular race since competing at a Melbourne Ironman triathlon earlier this year.

Reidy said their training schedule had been gruelling and included daily runs and swims along Bondi Beach.

"We have been bitten by the bug," he said.

"Once you compete in one triathlon, you want to do them all.

"It just so happens we chose the biggest in Australia for our second race."

Triathlon preparations have not been the only challenge the men have faced since arriving on the Coast on Wednesday.

Reidy thought he may have had to spend the night in Noosa National Park after getting lost on a run.

"It is such a beautiful spot here, so I thought, why not go for an afternoon run?

"The only problem was once it got dark, I had absolutely no idea which way I was going.

"It certainly could have been interesting spending the night out there if I didn't find my way back."

The Noosa Triathlon will take place this Sunday at the Noosa Heads Lions Park.
