A 50-YEAR-OLD Raceview man is now facing a murder charge after a man he allegedly tied up and strangled died.

Kenneth John Beattie was taken into custody last Sunday, charged with the torture and attempted murder of his housemate, 51-year-old Mal Wood (pictured).

The incident took place at a Scotsdale St house shared by the two men and a woman.

Beattie's charge was changed to murder after Mr Wood died at Ipswich Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Wood had been in the hospital's intensive care unit with critical injuries to his head and neck.

Beattie appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday to have his charge upgraded.

His case was adjourned to August 20.

He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
