$2m Centrelink mum pleads guilty
A SUNSHINE Coast mother accused of defrauding $2 million from Centrelink has today pleaded guilty to the offence in a Brisbane court.
Judy Lorbek, 46, of Coes Creek, near Nambour was arrested after authorities realised they had mistakenly placed the $2 million in her account in February instead of a one-off $2000 payment.
Lorbek is accused of going on a lavish spending spree - using the money to pay off her mortgage, renovate her home and fund a holiday.
The Coast mother was charged with the theft of $2,019,052.83 from the Commonwealth Department of Human Services child support program.
In Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday the matter was set for sentencing in the District Court on a date to be advised.
Lorbek is currently on bail with conditions now that she report to police at Nambour one day a week, not visit any RSL clubs and surrender her passport.
She has also been released on a $400,000 surety and is facing up to 10 years in jail when sentenced.
Lorbek declined to speak with the media after advice from her solicitor.
