A BURST water main has delivered a torrent of water to the top of town in Ipswich and cut off water to McDonald's.

Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU), which is responsible for Ipswich's water infrastructure, said a 150mm water main on Limestone St burst about 12.30pm.

A QUU spokeswoman said 20 properties have been left without running water, including the Maccas.

"QUU crews are on site working as efficiently as possible to restore water," the spokeswoman said.

"Traffic control is currently onsite, with one of the two lanes closed while repairs are underway."
