A 12-year-old boy is feared dead after a crocodile attack

A 12-year-old Northern Territory boy is feared dead after a crocodile attack near Nhulunbuy in the Top End on Saturday.

The boy was attacked by what was believed to be a 4m crocodile on Saturday afternoon during a swim at Port Bradshaw, about 80km south of Nhulunbuy.

Local media reports said police fired shots at the crocodile during a search for the boy on Sunday.

But 24 hours after the boy disappeared, police said they held grave fears and the case highlighted the dangers of swimming in waterways in the Top End.
